Matt Cecil and Alison McIntyre, CPCU, AIC, presented on overcoming generational stereotypes and mastering age differences in litigation and claims handling at the 2024 CLM Annual Confernece
Perceptions of generational differences are pervasive and frequently reinforced in claims professional/legal CLEs. However, studies have shown that commonly touted broad categorizations about generations are imperfect and, in many instances, actively misleading. These generational myths consciously and subconsciously affect how claims professionals interact with each other in the workplace and with claimants and opposing counsel, which can lead to unnecessary misunderstandings and even liability. However, an individual’s age can give claims professionals some insight into how to best interact with others in the workplace and in resolving claims. This presentation with Matthew Cecil will address the negative impacts of generational myths, and will include a discussion of how scientifically based data on age can still provide some insight on improving workplaces and claims handling.
